William Dorland is the director of the Honors College on the University of Maryland, but despite that title and his credentials, he is an idiot.
Dorland sent an email welcoming students back to campus and then wrote: “This year, we learned that is legal to hunt down and kill American children in Florida”.
He is referring to the death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin. Of course, George Zimmerman was cleared of all charges in Martin’s death.
Still, we have an “intelligent” member of the University of Maryland making such a bizarre, ridiculous, vicious remark about it now being “legal to hunt down and kill American children”.
This is exactly why some say liberal teachings are controlling schools, and keep in mind, this is a state school … not a private institution.
Dorland later said that the email was meant to stir some interest in a speaking event featuring Julian Bond.
If that is true, he is even more of an idiot.
If Julian Bond will be preaching that message, he should not be allowed on campus, but these bastions of “higher learning” tend to allow Liberal views on a consistent basis with a sprinkling of Conservative views just so they can say: See, we allow the other side a chance to speak.
.Despite some “apology”, Dorland is defending his use of that provocative line, and so far, I don’t see any reprimand from the University.
And I’m not holding my breath to see one.
By the way, the University motto is: Strong deeds; gentile words.
