Where were you on January 23, 1961?
The date might not mean much to you., but it could have been seared into your memory … if you had survived that day.
On that date, a B52 crashed near Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Two hydrogen bombs were on board and newly released documents show how close we came to a nuclear disaster. A simple
low voltage switch prevented detonation which would have been 260 times more devastating than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Nuclear fallout could have reached Washington, Philadelphia and New York in addition to damage to the Carolinas, neighboring states and the East Coast.
Today is a good day to count our nation’s blessings … especially considering what could have happened.
