Sometimes, you wake up feeling tired and worn down, and then you get some great news … as today, when we hear that Attorney General Eric Holder is resigning.

Don’t set up the drinks or order the cake and ice cream just yet — he will stay until President Obama can get a successor confirmed by the Senate.

Holder was one of the first members of President Obama’s Cabinet.

It didn’t take long for Holder to find ways to circumvent if not ignore the Constitution; of course, he’s been serving under a president who has the same attitude.

Look at how Holder handled or didn’t handle:  Operation Fast & Furious, the gun running operation, authorizing subpoenas aimed at journalists, approving authority for the National Security Agency to sweep up phone records of millions of Americans not charged with any crime … doing little to nothing regarding the IRS investigation.

He gave President Obama a wide latitude to exercise Executive Order by not challenging any of the White House actions.

He did order a Justice Department Investigation of the Ferguson shooting.

He also visited Ferguson and said that he could relate to the citizens saying:  I understand that mistrust.  I am the attorney general of the United States, but I am also a black man.

By they way, I understand and can appreciate his statement.  Still, it has rankled me when the U.S. Attorney General can admit that he has an “understanding” .. maybe even … bias? … when it came to Ferguson (and other race issues), but we had citizens demanding that St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch could not be a fair prosecutor because his father was a police officer killed by a black man.

So, Holder is out.

Is that good for the closing term of President Obama … or is this a case of the “devil you know vs. the devil you don’t”?

Who could replace him?

One name that some are pushing:  Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Not likely, but, I guarantee … she’s more likely than say … Bob McCulloch.

(Don’t forget that Holder was the first AG held in contempt by a vote supported by 17 Democrats.)
